Hi everyone,

I am just conducting another survey for an article I wish to get published in the Australian Women's Weekly in the nearfuture. If you could all post with a response, (If you think you can relate, etc), I would really appreciate it! Here are the questions:

1. Have you ever met anyone with ADD or ADHD? (Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Hyperactivity Disorder)?

2. If you have what was your preception prior to meeting somone with the, "Disorer," like, and has it changed at all since meeting?

Thanks guys,

Jess.
P.S. If If yo don't wish to be quoted, just let me know in your reply.

Yes. I have met people with both ADD and ADHD. I didn't really notice that the ones with ADD had a disorder but I did with those with ADHD. I remember having a geometry class with this guy who was just so obnoxious! He interrupted the class and made the dumbest remarks. You know, just wisecracks toward the instructor and things of that sort. He also never did his homework but still did well on tests. That infuriated me!! hehehe I tried so hard to do well but he still got better grades. Well, half way through the year, he got switched in to my history class and I got to know him better. I found out from my aide that he had ADHD and that's why he was always so hyper. That changed my whole perception of him. Knowing that he had ADHD gave me the patience to get to know him better and I am still so glad I knew him. I think that people with ADHD are so smart!!! They have a great mathematical brain that works wonders if they can just concentrate on what they should be doing.
A few years ago, my youngest sister, Lia, was diagnosed with ADD. Before we knew she had ADD, my whole family would get so angry with her because she didn't know how to do anything! She was always much slower than us all in learning and was put back a year because of this. Thinking back on it now, I feel really guilty for screaming at her when it fell upon me to help her with her homework! I was always so anxious to do something else and I felt that she was being slow on purpose. Now, visiting them after moving out, I notice that my other siblings don’t pay much attention to her. If she needs help, she’d rather do it alone than ask people. Heheheh But it’s strange, I would say that I am more patient with her now than my siblings are. So now that I have rambled on and on, I will stop. Heheheh I hope I was of help to you anyways!

I can't say anything about an empression before meeting someone with ADD or ADHD because it's something I grew up with. I'm not personally either of these, but my Mom is a social worker who specializes in helping with special needs. She got into the field because of my blindness, and I think it was her way of dealing, but back to the subject. I can't count the number of people I know who has one or the other of the disorders, but a prime example is my best friend and her little boy. They both have it, and I find I deal with both of them well enough. *smile*
